Google Express Delivery Service is Here: What to Know

Google Express

Alright Mamas….we know you got excited when Amazon Prime was made available in the Twin Cities and we KNOW their addition of Surdyk’s alcohol delivery really got you interested. So we were so excited to tell you about yet another delivery service that’s made it’s way to the Twin Cities!

Google Express has been working it’s magic in the Rochester area for a little while, but it’s finally HERE in the Twin Cities! Mamas, we’re always on the lookout for services that can make your life easier so we’re thrilled to tell you more about it and give it a try ourselves!

Here’s how it works: Much like another fave, Instacart, Google Express shops popular retailers for you and delivers your purchase for a $4.99 fee. It’s not available in all areas of the Twin Cities yet, so you’ll have to check the Google Express site and enter your zip code in the upper right corner to check for availability. We checked several suburbs’ zip codes and found that Burnsville, Woodbury, Blaine, Maple Grove, Maplewood, and others are covered so check yours to make sure.

Google Express

If you have a membership, delivery will be cheaper. In fact, if you sign up for a six-month trial membership your deliveries will be free for the entire six months.  If you do not have a membership, the fee is $4.99 for each delivery.

What’s the catch?

Actually, there are a lot of catches.

Prices may be higher than in the stores. They’re really upfront about that, so just consider whether sending Google to Costco for you is going to be worth it when you consider you’ll be paying a delivery fee and slightly higher prices than if you went yourself.

There also are some spending requirements. For example, to get delivery for $4.99 from Costco, you need to spend at least $15, which considering that Costco has higher price point items, that shouldn’t be too difficult. If you’re ordering cold groceries in a 2 hour delivery window you need to spend at least $35. (Note: As of right now, cold grocery delivery is NOT available and deliveries of all products are only overnight and 2-day delivery. This gives Amazon Prime Now a tremendous advantage!)

Deliveries also aren’t instant. Depending on your order and the stores you select your items from, the delivery could be in 2 hours, the same day or the next day. As of now, same-day delivery is NOT available. So if you were expecting to buy groceries like milk and eggs this way, you can’t do that. At least not yet. Maybe that will change. So take that into consideration when ordering. Right now, Amazon Prime Now offers 2-hour delivery on it’s in-stock items. Of course, Coborns Delivers is also an option as well and they also take manufacturer’s grocery coupons.

What are the advantages?

Check your zip code and see if you have access to Google Express if you don’t already get access to Amazon Prime. This might be a decent option for you if you can wait until the next day or longer for your deliveries.

Free deliveries for six months with a membership is also fairly attractive, but just be sure to cancel at the end of the six months if the service isn’t working for you. Memberships cost either $95 for the year or $10 a month if you choose a monthly option.

#TargetRunDay is a real thing this weekend! 10% off!

Target Twin Cities Moms

Target Twin Cities Moms

You heard it here, Mamas! Target is offering a special discount day this weekend as a “one-day event” in stores and online! In an attempt to come back from some disappointing sales figures in recent months, the move is being used as a shot in the arm for the nationwide retailer in a season when spending should be higher than normal.

Here’s how it will work: There will be a coupon in Sunday’s Target ad or you can request that a coupon be sent to your mobile device by texting RUN to TARGET (827438). If you shop online on Sunday, the 10% discount will be automatically deducted from your total.

Yes, you can still use coupons, Cartwheel and your RedCard discount. No, you cannot buy gift cards and certain branded items. According to Target’s announcement, “*Offer valid at Target or Excludes all gift cards, prepaid cards (airtime, entertainment, iTunes, and online gaming), Laneige, LEGO, Cards Against Humanity, Vitamix, Weber, Dyson, DSLR cameras and lenses, Google products, iRobot, Samsung TV, LG TV, Bose, Sonos, GoPro, alcohol, dairy milk, Simple Human, Traeger, Duluth Pack, Pulsar, and Pharmacy, Clinic, Target Optical, Portrait Studio and Target Mobile purchases.” (Source:

So if you have last-minute school shopping or want to get a headstart on your holiday shopping, Sunday might be just the day for you!

All About Amazon Prime Day – July 15th!

Amazon Prime Day July 15th

**As with all posts on Twin Cities Moms, there may be affiliate links for which we receive a small commission.
This does not increase the cost to you in any way and helps support our work at Twin Cities Moms. Thanks!**

You may have seen in the media that Amazon is having a sale that they say will rival the traditional Black Friday sales. It’s all to celebrate their 20th anniversary and it’s going to be pretty epic! So what does this mean for you if you ARE an Amazon Prime member of if you are NOT?

First, this sale will only be available to current Amazon Prime members, which means that if you have a membership in good standing you are automatically IN to take advantage of any of the deals Amazon decides to offer that day (more on those, below).

If you are not an Amazon Prime member yet, you still have time to become a member and take advantage of what could be pretty epic deals on Amazon on July 15th! The cost for an Amazon Prime membership is only $99/year and you get A LOT for that membership! Not only do you get free 2-day shipping on thousands of items, but you also get access to Amazon Music (free streaming music) and Amazon Prime Video which is similar to Netflix includes thousands of free movies and TV shows including Amazon original series’ that you can’t get anywhere else. You also get free, unlimited photo backup in the cloud with Prime Photos!

Secondly, the deals are going to be AH-MAZING! Like a 40-inch LED TV for $115! Or an Amazon Fire HD7 tablet for $60 off the normal price? Tons more deals are being leaked! We’ll update a few here so check back!

You’ll also have the chance to win $1000 to $25000 in Amazon gift cards!

So when is this sale?

The sale begins at 12:01am PT on July 15th, 2015 and will end at 11:59pm on the same day. It’s only one day, so be sure to grab what you want while it’s available!

Our tips for becoming an Amazon Prime member:

Join here and you’ll be enrolled in a free 30-day trial. If you decide you don’t want the membership before the 30-days expires, you won’t be charged anything. Just cancel before 30 days are up and you can enjoy all of the benefits of Prime in the meantime.

Consider making your Amazon Prime membership an Amazon Mom membership instead. The cost is the same, but you’ll also get 20% off selected diapers (all major brands are represented in the list of diapers available for the discount)!

Amazon Mom members can also get 15% off their monthly Subscribe and Save shipments if they purchase 5 or more things on a monthly, subscription basis. This discount alone is worth it! Not only do you get great Amazon prices on things you would buy anyway (think consumables…toilet paper, paper towels, food products, personal care products, etc) but you also get 15% off the entire order and free shipping too! Compare the prices of some of the products you already buy and you might find that the savings of money AND time are well worth switching your purchases to Amazon!

Is Prime worth it?

As an Amazon Prime member since the program began, my personal opinion is that it’s worth every penny! I check everything on Amazon before I make a purchase in a store. Knowing that I can get almost anything shipped to me for free and in only two days makes it so worth the effort of plugging in a search or two into Amazon to see if they can beat a local store’s price. This really comes in handy in the winter! Who wants to shop from store to store in the Twin Cities cold when an option is available that can bring the exact item I want, usually for less money, right to my door?

My family also loves the movie and TV show selections on Amazon Prime Video. Chances are that if Netflix doesn’t have something, Amazon Prime Video will and the selections are just different enough that we love having both services available to us. The free streaming music from Amazon Music and the free photo backup from Amazon Photos are awesome too. Who couldn’t use some more free photo storage as a second or third backup for safety?

If you’re curious about the one-day sale on July 15th and you want to give Amazon Prime a whirl, there’s really no better time. Check out the free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime and see how it works for you and your family!
